Downtown Ashland, 1941

These articles were part of my 14-part series called “We Regret to Inform You” about the young men from Ashland, Oregon who served and sacrificed in World War II. As there wasn't a list of casualties compiled, I gleaned my information from family members, archived newspapers, old high school and college yearbooks, firsthand accounts from other veterans, Missing Air Crew Reports (MACR), and other military documents. When the articles ran, I received many moving responses from those who never knew the specifics about what happened to their classmate, neighbor or distant family member. It was very gratifying to be able to provide some of the answers.

This series was an honor to write. Thank you to all those who served and sacrificed for our country.
